How to join Merchant Navy after 10th –

After 10th you can join Merchant Navy for general purpose (GP rating). You have to pass a six month pre-sea course for general purpose. In GP rating your duties are loading, unloading, cleaning etc.

Educational Qualification Required for GP rating Course:-

Candidate must have passed with aggregate of 40 percent marks in 10th standard or equivalent examinations from recognized board with mathematics and science as subjects and also have scored minimum 40 percent marks in English in 10th /SSC or in equivalent examinations.

Age:-  

Candidates must have completed 17 ½ years and should be below 25 years of age on the date of commencement of course.

Medical Standards:-

Some other requirements:-

Candidates should have a valid passport. Holding a valid passport is very much essential for Continuous discharge certificate (CDC).

Fees:- 

The course fees for GP rating is 1,20,000/- (Indian rupees). Fees for GP rating course varies from college to college.

Procedure to get admission in GP rating course:-

  • Many colleges give advertisement in Newspaper (Employment News) for admission of GP rating course and some colleges provide admission form for admission of GP rating course.

  • Once you pass all the above tests, you will get admission in GP rating course.

How to join Merchant Navy After 10+2/B.Sc. –

After 10+2/B.Sc, you can join Merchant Navy as a deck cadet or as an Engineer. You have to get admission in DNS or B.Tech degree course to join Merchant Navy.First of all, Fill an IMU CET test to get admission in DNS or B.Tech Marine degree course. After getting good rank in IMU CET, you may find a sponsorship or you can apply direct in any merchant navy college. It would be great if you find a sponsorship.

I. Educational Qualification required for one year Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS):-

For 10+2 science students:- 

Candidate must have passed 10+2 from a recognized board and should have scored 60 percent aggregate and 60 percent in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (PCM).Minimum 50 percent marks in English at 10+2 or 10th level is must. Candidate should be fluent in written and spoken English. Candidate has to clear examination conduct by IMU.

For B.Sc. students:-

Candidate must have passed 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (PCM) from a recognized board. Candidate should have passed physics as an individual subject in any one of the years of B.Sc. and not less than 60 percent marks in the final year.

For B.Tech Students:- 

Candidate should have a B.tech/BE or equivalent degree with minimum 60 percent aggregate marks from IIT or from a college recognized by AICTE/UGC/DEC.

Procedure to get admission in DNS Course:-

  • Fill an IMU CET test.
  • After getting good rank in IMU CET test, fill online admission form of college (In which you want to take admission) for DNS course. Apply in more than one college, suppose you get rejected by a college then you can try in other colleges.
  • After submission of admission form, college will call you for an interview, Written and medical examination (See here what type of questions asked in DNS interview).
  • Once you pass all the above tests, you will get admission in DNS course.
Note:- Some colleges offer provisional admission which means you can book your seat in that colleges before appearing in IMU CET test.

II. Educational Qualification required for 4-year B.Tech (Marine) Engineering course:-

Candidate must have 60 percent aggregate marks in 10+2 from recognized board. Candidate should have 60 percent in PCM. Minimum 50 percent marks in English at 10+2,10th level or diploma is must. Candidate who has a three years diploma can also take admission in B.Tech (Marine) in second year as a LEET student.

Age (For DNS or B.Tech. Marine) :-

Candidate should be less than 25 year old on the date of commencement of training as per DG shipping rules.

Medical Fitness:-

Medically fit with eyesight 6/6, with or without external aids (should not exceed +2.5 or -2.5). Candidate should not have any type of color blindness.

Procedure to get admission in B.Tech:-

  • Fill an IMU CET test.(Diploma students no need to apply)
  • After getting good rank in IMU CET test fill online admission form of college (In which you want to take admission) for B.Tech  degree course. Apply in more than one college, suppose you get rejected by a college then you can try in other colleges.

  • Once you pass all the above tests, you will get admission in B.Tech degree course.

How to join Merchant Navy after Graduation (B.Tech/BE)

To join Merchant Navy after B.Tech/BE, you have to get admission in one year GME (Graduate Marine Engineering) course. Many Merchant Navy institutes offer GME course (Here is a list of some renowned Indian Merchant Navy colleges). It would be great if you get a sponsorship before joining GME course. There are many companies who offer sponsorship. So try to get a sponsorship, meanwhile, do not forget to apply in renowned Merchant colleges to get admission in GME course. Educational Qualification to get admission in GME course:-

B.Tech/B.E. (Mechanical/Automobile) with minimum 60 percent marks from a recognized college (approved by AICTE/UGC/IIT). Candidate must have obtained minimum 50 percent marks in 10+2,10th or diploma. Candidate should have good command on English language.

Age:-

Not exceeding 28 years on the date of commencement of training.

Medical Fitness:-

Medically fit with eyesight 6/6 with or without spectacles. Maximum power permitted +2.5 or -2.5. Candidate should be free from any type of disability. No color blindness. Candidate should have minimum height 157cms and weight 48 kgs.

Procedure to get admission in GME Course:-

  • Fill an online admission form of college in which you want to take admission.(Apply in more than one college, suppose you get rejected by a college then you can try in other colleges).
  • After submission of online form, you have to pass an online test (Aptitude, IQ, Reasoning and psychometric).

  • If you will pass in interview then you will have to undergo a full medical fitness check up through DG approved doctor.
  • After passing above tests, you will get admission in GME course.
