So, you forgot Ledger PIN code? And don’t know how to reset it?
Then don’t worry, I’ll help you restore Ledger Nano S wallet. You can easily reset Ledger Nano S PIN by following the instructions given in this tutorial.
Currently, you cannot reset PIN of your Ledger Nano S from settings menu. Therefore, to reset Ledger Nano S PIN code, you’ve to reset Ledger Nano S; which means your device will reset to its factory conditions and your recovery seed will be erased. As of now, this is the only way to reset a Ledger Nano S cryptocurrency hardware wallet. After resetting Ledger Nano S, you can restore your Ledger wallet by using the recovery phrase. Note: Never ever restore Ledger Nano S if you don’t have recovery phrase. You have to use 24 words backup phrase to restore your hardware wallet.
- First, we’ll reset our Ledger wallet to reset its PIN code.
- Then, we’ll restore Ledger Nano S using the recovery seed.
- One who wants to reset Ledger PIN code.
- One who forgot Ledger PIN code.
- One who wants to install a new wallet on his/her Ledger Nano S.
Note: These instructions are for advanced users. If you don’t know what are you doing then seek help from a friend who has good knowledge.
How to Reset Ledger Nano S to Set a New PIN Code
Warning: As I mentioned above you can reset Ledger Nano S PIN by resetting it, therefore, make sure you’ve recovery phrase handy. If you don’t have your 24 words recovery phrase then don’t reset your Ledger wallet.
First of all, connect your Ledger Nano S to your computer or laptop and then enter a wrong PIN code.
After entering the incorrect PIN code, screen will show you “2 attempts remaining“.
Simply, press both buttons together and enter incorrect PIN code again.
Again press both buttons and enter wrong PIN code for the last time to reset Ledger Nano S wallet.
That’s it. You can read on your device’s screen that “Your device has been reset (3 wrong PIN).”
Now, disconnect it and then reconnect to your computer and follow the next steps.
How to restore Ledger Nano S Bitcoin Hardware Wallet
After reconnecting it to you computer, you can see the same welcome screen and simply press both buttons to proceed to next step.
In the next step, press left button to restore an existing wallet or if you want to setup a new wallet then you can press right button.
Next, you’ll be asked to set a PIN code for Ledger Nano S wallet. Simply enter a new PIN code for your Ledger wallet. Press both buttons together to jump to next step.
Enter your PIN code again and press both buttons.
Press both buttons to enter your recovery phrase.
Next, select number of words to restore. Usually, a recovery seed contains 24 words but if your recovery phrase has less number of words then you can select here. Simply, press both buttons to proceed.
Use left and right buttons to select number of words. In the above screenshot, I’ve selected 24 words because my recovery phrase has 24 words. To select words, press both buttons.
In the next step, you will be asked to enter first word of your recovery phrase. Press both buttons and then use left and right buttons to enter letters.
After entering the first letter, you’ve to press both buttons to enter second letter and so on. After entering the first 2-3 letters, you can see word suggestions to select your word. Note: If you enter a wrong word then simply select close word from word suggestions to reenter the word.
Once you enter all the words, press both buttons to restore Ledger Nano S hardware wallet.
Congratulations! You’ve successfully reset Ledger Nano S PIN code.
